My husband just scanned and emailed me our son Journey’s letter to Santa. I love how he prefaces the letter with his qualifications, “Dear Santa, I’ve been good this year.” In Journey’s mind, this gives him carte blanche to rattle off a premium list of electronics and software regardless of price. If I knew my child less I would say he’s spoiled, but this is nothing short of confident.
Journey is 10, I think it’s safe to say he knows there’s no Santa Claus, but he knows we still love to indulge the myth. To believe is better
than cynicism and different from materialism.
Our family is a close brood. Perspective keeping us consistently aware of the most important thing in life; our love for each other. This love inspires us each to aim high regardless of barriers.
When you love others, it’s easy for them to love you back and for you to get what you want in life. It may not be exactly what you asked for, but it will be in the spirit of what you want, something like what you “need.”
There’s no way our 10-year-old will get everything he asked for but I don’t fault him for asking! He has been a good boy this year! Keep aiming high and don’t be afraid to fail, we’ll be here cheering you on every step of the way. That’s how love works, that’s what family is during holidays and every day!
